The many ancient sites in the city of Rome are sited in the historic district on Palatino Hill, including both the magnificent landmarks of the Pantheon and the Coliseum. This part of Rome also contains many excavated ruins and important remains. Nearby you will find the lively Piazza Barberini and the acclaimed Spanish Steps.

Standing on the other side of Rome's River Tiber you will find the Vatican City, the smallest sovereign state on the planet and home to the pope, head of the Catholic faith. Highlights in the Vatican City area of Rome include the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Situated on each side of the river lie two enormous parks, Rome's noteworthy Botanical Gardens and the Villa Borghese.
